I have totally flaked on my blogging/picture updating. With Christmas came potty training and it has taken up what little spare time I used to have. Potty training twins is a lot of work and time! We are also transforming the nursery into a big boy room. It is exciting to make these change and watch them grow up but sad at the same time. Stay tuned for room pictures! I'll try to catch up on some highlights from the past oh...three months!

Fall festivities

We started Satuday morning with the MS walk in honor of my Uncle Steve. We later dropped by our friend Dawn's Halloween party. Here is Van dressed as a moose.

Everyone headed back to our house for an impromptu pumpkin carving party.

We put on the costumes again and started Trick or Treating at Bama's house.

Plans changed at the last minute and we decided to go to Safe Halloween at Pioneer Village. It was decorated adorable and the boys had fun cruising around in their stroller and people watching with Van and the big boys.

There was a highway patrol car at the village and we tried to get the boys to take a picture in it... Maguire didn't want anything to do with it!

The days get very long staying home with the boys all day. I've been trying to keep them busy and it is just too hot to play outside! We took our first trip to Chuck E. Cheese last week, ate some bad pizza and hung out with our cousins. The pictures were taken with my cell phone but you get the idea...

I got out the crayons and we colored for a loooooooong time. They loved it!

We just returned from a fun filled family vacation at Bass Lake. It was a ton of work with 2 years olds but worth it! A ride on the Sugar Pine Train. The boys got a train whistle and are still talking about "ride the train"

Fourth of July was very mellow for us this year . . . We hung out at my dad's with baby Van, did a little swimming and a few fireworks.

We decided to get out of the heat yesterday and take a little day trip to the Santa Barbara Zoo. The drive there was painless. We listened to Diego in the DVD player lull the kids to sleep and watched the temperature drop to 65. The boys spent a great majority of their day in the stroller but were content to hang out and enjoy the ride in the cool air. The zoo wasn't really stroller/animal seeing friendly and had lots of gates and walls up but what the boys could see they enjoyed!
They were really impressed with the turtle swimming and blowing bubbles. *Something I have been trying to get them to do for weeks*

Swimming "lessons"

We started swimming lessons last week. I had high hopes of the boys learning to hold their breath, kick their feet and maybe even swim a little? As it turns out, the highlight of the lesson for the boys is sitting on the "bi wah" or big rock before we leave! Mike took off of work early and came to lessons with us on Tuesday so I was able to take some pictures. This is a picture of sweet Jenna trying to coax Maguire into the pool. Most of the 25 minute lesson is spent trying to talk them into getting into the pool, prying them off of me and keeping them from screaming bloody murder.

Right now they are just sitting. There has been no "going"! I'm really in no hurry to potty train two boys . . . I'm just going to wait until they are ready and take cute pics of them on their pottys for now :)

Long overdue

I realize my blog is long over due and needs some updating! I have been terrible about taking

pictures of the boys....they rarely sit still! They will be two on the 23rd and are keeping me BUSY. The are chatting up a storm and their favorite words include; bye-bye in the car, nack (snack) and let's not forget MINE. They go from best friends snuggling, giggling and holding holds to screaming, kicking, wrestling maniacs. I'm looking forward to some fun adventures this summer with them!

We had an Easter miracle of our own this year! Saturday Keller was one sick little boy. He didn't eat a thing, was throwing up and had a fever! By Sunday he was almost healed! We missed church and I was so bummed about that but we did get a chance to have an egg hunt and an Easter dinner with Grandma and Grandpa Babb.

What a fun day we had today! We started out by hanging out with Bree and Van then we headed to MYGYM for a plydate with the twin group. It is a giant indoor playground and the boys had so much fun climbing on "approved" structures with out being told, "No!"

We did a pre easter egg hunt with some girlfriends at the park this week. The boys loved it and loved plaing on the toys at the park. As soon as Keller discovered there was food inside the eggs, he was done hunting and ready to chow!

Breanne gave birth to the newest member of our growing family of BOYS! Van Peter was born February 16 at 10:15 am. He was 21.5 inches long and 9 pounds! The doctor pulled him out and said, "HE'S A MOOSE!" I've hardly called him Van since. We love our Moose! Nana and MooseMeanwhile, the boys are as busy and naughty(Keller) as ever. They would rather play with shoes and tupperware these days than any of their toys. Wine corks are also a favorite!A rare moment of peace and quietKeller loves to look at himself in the mirror

A lot of time outs

Mike and I got to go on a rare weekend away recently. The boys stayed at Grandpa and Grandma Babb's house and we went to Ventura. We had a blast eating quiet meals and shopping with out a stroller. Here are the boys helping us unpack!

Mike's sister's daughter Leah spent a few days with us last week. Keller hated sharing his toys with her and was such a stinker! We aren't used to being around girls!

We've been working in our backyard some trying to get it ready for spring. The boys LOVE to be outside and get dirty. Keller found this frog and loved the poor thing to death. Maguire, of course, wouldn't touch it or go near it. We finally had to take it away from Keller before he killed it and he cried for 20 minutes!

Nothing much to blog about lately. We have had some yucky weather and have been hangin out at home quite a bit. I love having a cell phone because it's always next to me when my camera isn't. Here are just a few for fun (mostly for Granny) :) Mag loves building with blocks and K loves to knock them down. It makes Maguire sooooo mad. I'm SURE that is why Keller loves it.

Our new thing around here is showers. The boys love to play in the shower with us and it is so much easier than a bath when we are in a hurry!

This was NOT posed. I went in their room and they were sitting like this! Some days they are best friends and love each other so much. Some days . . . .not so much.

Keller sat in the haircut chair alone a few weeks ago. He is such a BOY now! Maguire screamed so I had to sit with him. (surprise, surprise)

In backwards order from New Years. We had a busy few weeks between Thanksgiving and New Years Eve.
We celebrated New Year's Day at the beach. The boys had a great time on the sand and playing at the park. We ended up coming home a day early because it was not relaxing for us to chase the kids around the beach house (not child proofed) and to try and keep them happy. The screamed the whole ride home on Saturday and both Mike and I were ready for an ADULT vacation!

Maguire hates his hands to be dirty and didn't like the sand on them.

Of course, Keller is all boy and was filthy!

Maguire is into cleaning these days (Santa is bringing him a broom and a dust pan for Christmas) and Keller loves to dance! A janitor and a rock star maybe? They both bounce off of the walls all day long! I wish I could bottle up a tiny bit of that energy.

BreAnne's shower was December 5th. We celebrated with a yummy brunch and what seemed like hours of gifts! We are so excited for the newest boy entering our big boy filled family!

She wasn't 100 percent sure about the baby's name until recently. His name was revealed at the shower. He will be called VAN! Love it!

I thought I should post my Thanksgiving pictures before Christmas came! Keller was sick-AGAIN-so we were a bit afraid that we wouldn't make it this year but June was amazing enough to risk her kids health and her sanity and let us come! I feel so blessed to have a family that I love being around. My holidays include hanging out with my very best friends. We put the kids to bed and the adults played a game called Things. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. I can't wait until Christmas!

Monday was Breanne's 29th birthday. We went out to dinner at Mexicali to celebrate!

When you get pregnant, even YOUR OWN birthday becomes about gifts for the baby!

Mike loves Kacey and Matt's baby Piper and thinks she is the cutest thing ever. He always has to hold her and play with her when we see her! She is adorable but . . .

I had a few margaritas (can you tell?) It turned out to be a BIG mistake. Mike's mom stayed with the kids while we went out to dinner. Keller had been running a fever on and off for a few days. An hour or so after we got home, Mike went to check on Keller and his fever was really high. We ended up in the E.R. from 11:00-3:30 that night and I was really regretting those margaritas! It was an exhausting miserable night!

I had my camera in my purse so I snapped a picture of sick baby boy. Mike held him the entire time and he is no tiny guy! He weighed in last week at 27.2 lbs! The E.R. was crawling with people and there was only one poor, poor doctor. Next time, we will be treating all fevers at home and having a drink only when all babies are well.

Halloween was really fun this year. We took the boys by my dad's house to show off their costumes then spent the evening bbqn at June and Seans. We hit the streets in their neighborhood as soon as it got dark. The boys were perfectly happy to sit in their stroller and take it all in. I had to add some fun to the pictures :)

My mom went with us and we took breaks sitting on curbs and chatting while the kits went door to door.

June dressed up for her new job as a "burn victim" at the Firehouse Grill. Her kids were adorable as a caveman riding a dinosaur and a baby dino hatching from an egg.

The reasons I have not blogged in a month

I'm home with a sick Maguire today so I thought I'd share with you all of the reasons I have been MIA. Some of the pictures are poor quality because they were taken with my cell phone! You get the idea though . . .

1. I went back to work! I miss Kindergarten so much but do appreciate the good things about teaching 4th grade. I have a really fun and sweet class that I enjoy being with all day! However, it is a LOT more work for me and much more stressful. I am exhausted by teaching all day and coming home to feed kids, give baths and play until bedtime. My days "off" are filled with cooking, laundry and cleaning!

2. After a very slow start to September, Mike's business is picking up a bit. He hasn't been around much to give me computer time! Thanks for the prayers-keep them coming!

3. We have been playing outside a bit. The weather got cool for about 12 hours and so we took advantage of it by playing outside. I thought chalk might be fun for the boys to draw with. They preferred to eat it, throw it and fight over it. But look how well Keller wrote his name :)

4. I have to keep a CONSTANT eye on Keller. He is very independent! He is a little monkey and loves to climb anything. He also loves to climb into things. He will get inside of any drawer, basket or box he can find then scream when he can't get out. He is very creative and will stack pillows or blankets to make himself a step. He will pull out drawers to climb the dresser and even use his quad to stand on. He will even climb Charlie the dog. Maybe he will be an acrobat or a window washer.

Meanwhile, Maguire is much calmer but a little more high maintence. When Mike is home, Maguire is his shadow. Mike can't take out the trash, sit on the couch or even use the bathroom without Maguire. He doesn't want much to do with me! Some days it hurts my feelings but most of the time I don't mind!

5. I am a non-stop referee. The boys are best friends playing together and laughing one minute then screaming and hitting the next. They have 100 toys but will fight over the smallest, dumbest toy. Maguire has many bite marks and bruises from Keller. He tends to be a bit of a bully!

6. We got tile in our dining area. My house was torn up for a week while Mike and Mark tiled the area next to our kitchen. I never knew it was such a BIG job! I do know that I will never again have to scrub cottage cheese or avacado from the carpet under the boys high chairs. YAY!

7. I am a short order cook. I live in my kitchen preparing snacks and meals for these two eating machines. Some days they consume more food than I do. How are we going to afford the teenage years?

Bad hair day

Keller's hair was getting a little shaggy so I asked Mike to give him a LITTLE trim around the ears. Our family does not have the best history when it comes to home haircuts and I knew that this was probably a bad idea. Next thing I know, Mike is giving Keller a full on haircut. When he got finished I was not happy. Little did I know that he was a better barber than the 18 year old recent graduate of Federico's Beauty College.
We got in the car and took the boys to Cost Cutters down the street. We waited what seemed like hours while they proceeded to pull down every bottle of shampoo, hairspray and gel from the shelves and then moved on to destroy the magazines.
Already annoyed at the whole situtation, I sat in the chair with Keller. I asked the girl to please even out the mess of a "haircut" that was given to him by Mike. She gets out her clippers and begins to shave his head right at the top! I yell at her to stop but it was too late. She rubbed the bald chunk with her hand as if she could make it come back and I thought she was going to cry. I thought I was going to cry. There was nothing left to do . . .

It's only hair and I guess it will grow back. Fortunately, Maguire was spared and Mike will never be getting near their heads with clippers again.

We spent a beautiful day in Tehachapi on Saturday for the Mountain Festival. We had a great day and the boys had a lot of fun! We did a lot of chasing but it was worth it.

San Fransisco and Manja's wedding

We went to San Fransisco this weekend and it couldn't have been more fun. Mike and I are both challenged when it comes to directions. We definitely took the "scenic" route to get to San Fransisco but we didn't mind. He enjoyed talking, laughing and a quiet lunch at Dennys.

We had a little bit of time to be tourists before the wedding. We went to Fisherman's Wharf with some friends. We both want to come back and do more of the nerdy tourist things.

I had to document Mike in a shirt and tie. It doesn't come out very often!

The wedding was amazing. It was so fun to get dressed up, eat a fancy dinner and dance all night! Manja looked happy and beautiful and I was so glad that I got to be there to celebrate with her and spend some time with my girlfriends.

I'm crazy busy, we just got back from San Fransisco (pictures coming) and I had to get back into the swing of life-real life. I'm heartbroken about going back to work and pray everyday for a miracle in which I could resign! I'm trying to get all my loving in with the boys because I know I am going to miss them really soon. I just thought I'd post a few pictures of my cuties since I had a second to breathe.

Keller has been taking a few steps at a time and trying his best to walk. Maguire acts uninterested and still chooses crawling for his preferred mode of transportation. Yesterday, Maguire just started crusin! Many of my friends have said that their kids just took off one day. Mike and I are going to San Fransisco for the weekend without the kids and are afraid we are going to leave and come back to walking kids! He said that he would be mad if that happened but I am ready!

Again, please ignore the obnoxious voice of yours truly in the background. Also, it is 107 degrees here. I think that excuses spending the day in your diaper.

Partners in crime

When I go to the grocery store, dinner, Target, wherever, somebody always say, "Oh I wish I had twins." It always makes me laugh.

We haven't done much that would be considered blog worthy lately. I went out of town this weekend and stayed with my good girlfriend Lynette. I got to lay on the beach, read a book, go out to dinner and go to church in the morning! Mike the Saint stayed home with the kiddos and he survived. He sent me a text at one point that said, "It's really hard because they eat so much. And I am really tired for some reason." Welome to my world buddy.

The boys have learned to work together to get into things. Keller pushed the box over to the bookshelf and Maguire reached for the contraband. (notice the bottom shelves are completely cleared of all things valuable) Climbing is the big trick around here lately. I wish they would focus their energy on walking but they prefer to go UP.

It's frying hot here these days. Even the pool feels like a bath. We tried to cool off last night at my dad's house. Maguire wasn't in the mood to be in the water so he just hung out out and watched Keller and I play and splash!

Keller was so tired. He snoozed on Grandpa for awhile before we went home.

Yesterday Keller and Maguire turned one! We didn't do the whole giant first birthday party thing. I don't think they'll hold it against me. June's son Tash turned one this week too so we had a bbq at June's Friday night to celebrate Father's Day and birthdays. I made vegan cupcakes for my high maintence child. Not only did he eat his cupcake, he tried to steal Maguire's and then moved on to Tash's. He's such an eating machine. Hmmm wonder where he gets that?
Mike and I joked about how careful we used to be about making sure they stayed on a blanket, sanitizing their toys etc. Now that they are one, we are letting them eat off of the concrete on the back porch.

Grandma and Grandpa Babb brought a party over last night. They brought dinner and mini quads. Keller was scared to death of his and nearly crawled up the wall when we turned it on. Maguire sat right on his and loved it!

We took the kids to have their pictures taken at JC Penney on Tuesday. Mike had the day off and I have been feeling bad about not having their pictures done at a real studio in awhile. I try and try to take pictures of them together in cute clothes, smiling at the camera but I can't get it done. I was sure the professionals at good ol JC Penney would have great tricks up their sleeves. I was planning on taking home beautiful smiling pictures of my adorable twins.

Instead . . . Maguire sobbed, Keller crawled out of every shot and I was a sweaty mess trying to keep them happy and on the designated white sheet. Mike was technically "on call" so he was chatting on his cell phone during most of the madness.

We finally gave up and I resolved to forgo studio pictures until they can be bribed.

I brought this tub into the living room to hold some of our growing stash of toys. Turns out IT is a new favorite toy in the Babb household. There is a funny sticker label of a baby in the box with it crossed out. In other words, don't let your baby play in this tub. Bad mom?

Keller can stand all by himself these days for an extended period of time. He has even taken a step or two from the chair to the couch. Maguire isn't so interested in walking but loves to clap and wave.

eggs, peanuts, soy and swimming

Keller had his allergist apointment yesterday. My mom went with me to help with the kids. They don't enjoy their stroller anymore and cry to get down in the dirty doctors office. We had them entertained with a variety show of The Itsy Bitsy Spider, fake coughing and tickling-for a bit.

I was given another CREAM to add to Keller's collection. He took pictures of Keller's arms and legs and wants me to use the cream and come back in a month. Many products contain the label: MADE ON EQUIPTMENT SHARED WITH EGG, NUTS AND SOY. He told me I didn't have to be THAT careful because his allergies seem limited to his skin. He seems to think he may grow out of the egg and soy allergy. The peanut allergy is a little tougher to get rid of apparently. So, I will be trying yet another cream and praying that it heals my little man!

After the appointment, I went over to my friend Katy's to swim with the boys, her boys and my friend Brandy's twin boys. The water was too chilly (the weather in Bakersfield has been awesome for June) so we got in her giant spa. It was too crazy to see all of us juggling all of these kids, floating devices, sunscreen and swim diapers. Katy's brother in law was there too and he was a good sport about helping. I love having fun friends with boys!

Meeting Aubrey and other stuff

I can tell summer is here. We have been so busy that I haven't even had a chance to blog!

We did some "swimming" in the baby pool the other other day. Mike just threw them in there naked and they were happy. He got in with them and did a little rendition of Row, Row, Row Your Boat with a spatula.

Last Sunday we went to Tehachapi (ok-so I thought last time was the LAST time). We met Aubrey for the first time! Aubrey is Mike's best friend Danny's little girl. Danny and his family live in Iowa so we haven't gotten to meet Aubrey until now. Many of you prayed with us for Aubrey. She is really a miracle baby. Aubrey was born with heart problems and at 11 days old had to be taken by helicopter to a children's hospital for an experimental heart surgery. In order to save her life, the helicopter had to land at a different hospital where they gave her a shot of calcium in her foot. The calcium saved her life but killed her foot. Her leg was amputated several weeks later. Sarah and Danny stayed at the Ronald McDonald house for weeks while Aubrey healed. Part of the reason we wanted to walk this weekend to help support the house in Bakersfield!

Aubrey has a prosthetic leg now and gets around great! She is happy and adorable and we loved getting to meet her finally.

Aubrey was loving Keller. Sarah and I thought Aubrey Babb had a nice ring to it. Isn't she a cutie? She gave me a little bit of girl fever.

We got some news about Keller's eczema too! He is highly allergic to eggs and nuts. He is mildly allergic to soy. Up until now, the main sources of protein for the kids has been eggs, nuts and tofu!! I have taken Keller off of these things and his eczema seems to be getting better. Unfortunately, everything contains soy, eggs and nuts. I am on my to making appointments with the allergist and dietician.

I am glad to have some answers but frustated by the answers we got! BreAnne told me at her school there is a special table for kids with peanut allergies in the cafeteria-poor Keller.

Mike's parents took the kids to Tehachapi on Friday evening for the night. It is always such an amazing break for us! We picked them up on Saturday evening and had our last dinner in Tehachapi.

Mike's parents house has been on the market forever and they finally sold it! We are excited for them to move to Bakersfield but will miss the Tehachapi house.

After his bath, I combed Maguire's hair. I gave him the comb (he wanted it so bad) and he started trying to comb his own hair.

When Mike gets home he always takes the boys to hang out with him so I can cook dinner or finish some chores. He has been taking them outside a lot and they love it. I'm dreading the heat.

I can't open the refrigerator or any other cupboard without them under my feet pulling everything out.

They do keep each other entertained a lot though. They were laying on the floor forever just cracking each other up and wrestling the other day.

Took a short trip to Morro Bay this weekend. It was so nice to get away! I played with some of the pictures today in photoshop. I love beach pictures . . . I left my memory card at home so I had to use my mom's spare. It had very little memory but I got a few good shots of the boys in the sand.

I'll be teaching 4th grade at Berkshire (my current school) next year. I'm trying really hard to have a good attitude about it. A change might be nice for me! I did apply for a position teaching a Kindergarten class at another school. It is a SEI class which means-no English! I'm leaving it up to God to put me where I should be! I'll be very sad to leave my school. I love my principal and am pretty comfortable there since I have been there since the school opened but I think I am a Kindergarten teacher at heart and would be happier teaching little kids.
I am left in a bad position after job sharing this year as well. Our district laid off about 70 teachers and these teachers have rehire rights for 24 months before teachers that are job sharing (no matter how long they have been teaching). If the budget gets worse, more teachers could be laid off and the period could be extended. This means after teaching for 8 years, I am forced to stay part time indefinitely. I could get a job in another district but would go back to being considered a first year teacher. Any more cuts and I would lose my job in that district.
I am praying that Mike's business picks up and we will survive indefinitely on my part time income.
I've had to come to the realization that it's just a job and not my life. So, I'm going to try and keep a teeny bit of my enthusiasm for teaching and make the best of it. Meanwhile, I am thinking of new career paths to take . . .

Every Sunday we go to dinner at my dad's house. His house is NOT babyproofed but they do have this one gate for their little dog Beebee. I end up chasing the boys around the house trying to keep them out of dog water bowls, potted plants and their hands off of the T.V.

Mike worked late one night this week which means I do our night rituals alone. It kicks my butt. I don't see how single moms do it! I fed the boys and got them undressed for their bath. My camera was next to me and their naked bootys are so cute to me. I was taking pictures and then ran to the bedroom to grab the towel. I came back to find them both sitting on the tile floor in the bathroom splashing in a "puddle". Ew

I usually end up soaked by the end of their bath. They splash, climb all over each other and stand up over and over when I set them down.

I think I better get used to my life with boys.

Boys had their first haircuts today. They were getting shaggy so I begged Mike to let them get haircuts! He finally caved and so we went to Cool Cuts 4 Kids. The boys got to sit in cars and watch Elmo during the haircut. They were so good any didn't even make a peep. They look so cute and so BIG after they were done. $70.00 and ten minutes later we were done. They convinced us to buy some baby wax and shampoo. We are serious suckers and will be going to Supercuts from here until they pay for their own cuts.

Emetophobia

The boys had Joe's bachelor party Saturday night and June and I had a slumber party. I made dinner and our mom came over. We had a fashion show for our wedding attire and watched the first hour Twilight. (I don't really understand the hype?)

All the while, the boys slept peacefully in their pack and play. Mike and Sean were supposed to spend the night at Joes but ended up coming home later (Thank God). Mike and I slept on the couch and never heard a peep from the boys until they woke up for their morning bottle . . .

Now, I have been diligent about using the 4 day wait rule when feeding the boys. I am very careful about what I feed them and write everything down so I have a record in case of allergies etc. They have been fine and haven't reacted to anything. So far . . .

I decided to relax a little bit on my feeding "policies". They boys had two brand new foods in one day on Saturday; cantaloupe and mustard greens. I'm thinking my policy was in place for a reason.

Emetophobia: An abnormal and persistent fear of vomiting. Sufferers of emetophobia experience undue anxiety even though they realize their fear is irrational.

For as long as I can remember, I have had emetophobia. (I only recently learned it had a name-ha). If I feel sick, I will lay in bed for hours willing myself not to throw up. I made it through my entire pregnancy without barfing. I would hover over the toilet dying of nausea scared to death I would throw up. It's ridiculous I know. I can remember almost every incidence when someone has thrown up around me or in front of me. I HATE throw up. I'm scared to be around sick people. I want to be sympathetic but I can't.One of my very best friends has the same phobia. We always compare notes to make sure that the other one is not completely crazy. (We both are)

When my phobia comes up people they always say, "nobody likes throw up" or "it will be different when it is your own kids." NOT SO MUCH

5 a.m. Sunday: Keller wakes up babbling like every other morning. I get up and walk towards the room where they are sleeping. I am met in the hall by the worst smell I'm sure I have ever smelled. It's still dark and I pick Keller up from his pack and play. He is COVERED in purple (plums for dinner) chunks. In his hair, his ears and all over his face and body is throw up. I'm sure that he must have thrown up sometime during the night and rolled around in it until morning. I panic. I thank God briefly that my husband is sleeping on the couch. IT IS NOT DIFFERENT WHEN IT IS YOUR OWN KID! I peel Keller's clothes from his body and begin to dry heave. Mike takes Keller and holds him (covered in barf) while I get a bath ready in June's sink. He bathes Keller who isn't phased a bit acts like this happens every morning. I continue to dry heave. We get him bathed and his bed cleaned up. He sucks down a bottle without a care in the world and goes back to bed with Maguire.

I swear I can still smell the puke on him today.

His eczema broke out all over his face and body. I'm not sure if it was from new food, wallowing in vomit all night or June's laundry detergent on the sheets. I am sure that the kid will not be eating plums, cantaloupe or greens for a long time.

The wedding is almost here! We have been so busy with events leading up to the big day!! It all started with BreAnne's baclorette party. A bunch of us girls went to L.A. and shopped, went to a comedy club and had lots of fun!

The nest weekend, we had family from Colorado and Deleware come to see the twins for the first time and go to BreAnne's shower! My cousin Calgary is a teacher in Colorado and their Spring Break was last week.

Even though I have lost much of my enthusiasm for teaching, I love learning new things. I may have too many hobbies because I don't have time to get good at anything before moving on to the next thing! I am mad at myself for wasting all of the free time that I used to have before the twins!

My friend Meghan is always trying to get me to try new recipes and I want to-I really do Meghan. Mike would appreciate not eating cereal for dinner several nights a week.

I also want to sew every cute thing I see and have to stay out of Strawberry Patches. I buy so many patterns and yards of fabric that I'd be embarrassed to let you see my office.

I want a garden too. I started a small herb garden while I was pregnant but it exploded out of the pots in the corner of our yard. Mike just trimmed it all back (he isn't a fan). I used the herbs only a few times-to make herbed butter once. It was tasty.

I have a huge stack of books that I want to read too.

See! I can't concentrate of one thing. I get scattered and jump from one thing to another. I have big plans to read, cook or sew after the boys go to bed or when they nap. I usually end up cleaning, pouring a glass of wine or running out of energy before I can get started.

Most recently, I took a photography class. It was so fun and I loved every minute of it. I've been taking a ton of pictures and I'm now learning photo shop so I can edit them and add fun things to them. I love our baby announcements and Christmas card done in photo shop and have been dying to learn this tricky program. I changed the blog header to something I learned in my photo shop class-yay! Here's another . . .

I'll keep posting pictures of the new things I learn in my class if I don't lose interest. (Mostly for Granny Babb who checks the blog for pictures of her great grand babies every day)

It's been awhile

I haven't blogged in awhile so here goes . . .

The weather has been nicer lately and I have been meeting friends at the park or the bike trail pretty often. The kids are great in the stroller and seem to like getting out and about in the fresh air. They are also fabulous shoppers and smile at every single old lady that gushes over them and their matching clothes. People still ask me if they are twins. Duh? I haven't been bored or stir crazy and think I could EASILY transition to staying home full time. I've met a some new stay at home friends and have caught up with old ones (Meghan why do you live so far away?) I have appreciated and enjoyed my days at home so much more lately. The boys are happy to watch Baby Einstein on T.V. or crawl around in the living room playing with each other and their toys. They hold their own bottles now too! This gives me time at home to sew, cook and read the million magazines piling up on my coffee table. I think I would be happy for them to stay at this age for a long while. It is getting a bit harder to go to houses of friends and family lately. I chase them around keeping them out of plants, dog bowls and any other hazard they find. They love cords for some reason too.

I finished my last photography class and I loved it. I have taken some really cool pictures of the boys and love using them to practice the new things I have learned.

My job is still up in the air for next year. I know for certain now that I will not get to teach Kindergarten. This is truly where my heart is (if I HAVE to work) but I will go where I am called to serve. I'm hoping I can stay at my school since the boys babysitter is so close but I won't know for awhile still. I am thankful to have a job when so many teachers are being laid off due to the drastic cuts in education in California. I am trying to have a cheerful attitude and embrace the change coming my way.

Mike's cat Max has been sick for awhile now. He has been throwing up at least once a day for about a month. We took him to the vet, they think he has a tumor and wanted to do exploratory surgery for $1300.00! We decided to just wait it out, deal with the throw up for awhile and see if he got any better. He isn't acting sick (other than the throwing up) but we are worried he may be suffering. We are wrestling with putting him to sleep. I hope cats go to heaven.

Mike has been busier with the business these past weeks (phew). Many people are living in their RV's or fixing their old ones instead of buying new but it is still hard to not be able to count on a regular paycheck to budget with!

I have family coming from Delaware and Colorado soon and am really looking forward to visiting with my aunts and cousins and having them meet Keller and Maguire.

BreAnne's wedding in April 4. I have been helping her with last minute details and it reminds me why I eloped. It is so much work! Her bachlorette party is this weekend and Mike will be home with the boys alone all weekend. I know he can handle it but I think I'm going to miss all of them like crazy. I AM looking forward to some girl time and sleeping in though!

Prayers needed

I can't get this off of my mind so I decided to blog about it! I need a few prayers from my favorite people that read this.
I have been at the same school since it opened 7 years ago and have been really happy there. I decided to share a contract this year to have more time with the boys at home. I still am happy I made this decision and wouldn't give back any of this time! Due to the crazy state budget and some unfair technicalities, I may be losing my Kindergarten position at my school. I will still have a job, it may just be a job that is unfamiliar and undesirable to me. I'd really love to take a leave of absence from teaching and find a part-time that I am inspired by and love! I like working and having a little time away just for me. Financially, Mike's business isn't quite ready to support our little family.
I'm sure God has a plan for my future-I am just not sure what it is. Uncertainty is the scariest thing for me. Please say some prayers that what is in store for me is bigger and better! And while you are at it, pray for Mike's business too! Thank you! Thank you!

It's nice to have mom friends. They understand the pain of being up all night, teething, doctors appointments and all of the other stressful and wonderful things about being a new mom.

A lot of my friends say, "I don't know how you do it with two." I honestly don't know how I do it some days either.

Brandy is the best kind of mom friend-a twin mom friend-a twin boy mom friend. It's nice to have someone that knows how you do it! Her boys Jack and Callahan (3 months) came over for our first playdate. She is just coming out of the newborn fog and is starting to realize there is life beyond the four walls of her living room.

We decided to do one nursery for the boys. This has been working out fabulously until now. During naptime, Keller turns his body around in his crib so he can "play" with Maguire. They laugh and talk and I can hear them in there when they are supposed to be sleeping. Ugh. This makes my days unbelievably long. By the time dinner rolls around they are fussy and tired and a huge mess because they partied all day. Last night, Keller fell asleep before he could even take his first bite. He may not be our kid. Neither one of us have EVER been too tired to eat. The thighs look suspiciously familiar however . . .

Our trip to Santa Cruz was short but very sweet! The boys were AMAZING on the drive there and slept great in the hotel cribs and then some with us in the big bed.

It sure is different "vacationing" with kids. We took a short walk on the Santa Cruz beach boardwalk (I wasn't impressed) then headed back to the room where Mike and I ate $60.00 worth of room service cheeseburgers then shared a bottle of wine on the patio. At least the view was beautiful.

The homeopath we visited in Santa Cruz was just what we had been looking for. She reaffirmed our belief in all things natural when it comes to treating our kids ailments. Sometimes Mike and I feel so pressured to conform even though we don't feel it is what is best for us. I just have to keep reminding myself that these are OUR children! We have been using the remedy for Keller's skin along with a moisture barrier and a fish oil supplement. Guess what? In just a few short days, we have seen considerable improvement in his arms! They aren't completely healed yet but we are hopeful.

Christmas was definitely a different experience this year. Mike got to be home with us a lot more than usual and I loved every minute of it! Santa didn't come this year but the boys got some fun presents like a new red wagon from Mike's parents!

Maguire has figured out how to get where he wants to go by scooting, rolling or army crawling. He is already over his toys and into things like cell phones and remote controls. I was loving this age because I could lay them on a blanket with toys to load the dishwasher or do some laundry and they'd be there when I got back. I'm in for it now.

We are currently on our way to Santa Cruz to see a homeopath for Keller. I'm listening to him cry as we speak. I would never under normal circumstances take them this far but we are getting desperate! The poor guy itches all of the time and his skin looks terrible. The "help" we are getting in town consists of prescriptions and steroids. I'm praying for a healthy natural alternative for him. I'll let all of you know!

I got this mini video camera to take videos of the boys on a whim. I haven't been that great about it but I got it out tonight because Keller was cracking up (which of course stopped when I took out the camera). I thought I'd post one I took of them talking and fussing this evening for my Colorado family and I started flipping through old videos. I found this one of them as teeny tiny babies looking like little old adorable men. Mike was watching them with me and we were ooooing and ahhhing about how cute they were and are. I said, "let's have another one soon." He promptly left the room and I snapped back into reality. That was close.

We had Thanksgiving dinner at Joe and BreAnne's house this year. We had big plans to relax, watch some parade and play some games. All I have to say is that there is no relaxing with four babies in the house. I'm sure the madness has just started!

I had a long day today. Getting ready for the holidays is wearing me out already! I was in a bad mood when Mike got home today. He knows me so well and picks up on what I need before I even know that I need it. He made me take a bath with a glass of wine and a stack of magazines while he took over with the babies. As I was relaxing with bubbles and Mothering mag (which I love by the way) I could hear Mike reading Dr. Seuss to the boys. It made me get tears in my eyes. I just want to say that I am so thankful for my amazing husband. I had no idea at this time last year how great of a dad he would be!

Fertility treatments are a scary game to play. When Mike and I were trying to get pregnant I never read the fine print. I gave myself the shots and popped the pills never thinking that multiples could be in my future. What an idiot. June brought Tash over for a bit the other day while she ran errands. I changed all of their diapers assembly line style then thanked the Lord that I only had two eggs! I don't think triplets are my style.

I went back to work this week. It was really nice to get back to "real life". I am definitely easing my way into things by job sharing. I think I am really going to like it! I also love the fact that my class has 14 students. Teaching seems like a breeze after four months of taking care of twins! I love my friends at work and even got to go out to lunch on Friday!
My good friend Lorisha was supposed to babysit the boys at her house. We had the whole situation worked out for months. However, the best laid plans often fail! Lorisha got pregnant (with a boy-yay!) and her belly combined with transportation issues made it tricky to babysit.
After a night of tossing, turning and worrying, I think we have a plan. Mike has a friend that recently bought a house on the same block as my school. His wife is a stay at home mom and wants to watch K&M (crazy lady). I'm just praying that everything works out and the babies are safe and happy at her house.
I was definitely ready for the weekend after my stressful week. When my mom invited us to meet her and Mark for margaritas Saturday afternoon I was all over it. The boys loved being outside on the patio and hanging out with their Papa and Nana!

Last week Mike shut down the laptop before bed. Give the guy a piece of bubblegum and some duct tape and he can fix anything but he is seriously challenged when it comes to computers. When I woke up in the morning the computer was a mess. Of course, I freaked out on him blaming him right away. He WAS the last one that touched it. Turns out the whole hard drive was bad. This was in no way, shape or form Mike's fault-oops. I'm sure he has done something lately that I missed freaking out over though so we can call it even.

So I just got my computer back and can't wait to share a bunch of cute pictures and stories! And I may just complain just a little too . . .

Keller and Maguire made some new friends yesterday. Really, they just sat there like the drooling baby blobs they are while I visited with my friends Andrea and Janelle. My friend Christie made us these onesies. We love her and anybody else that gives us cute clothes! They weren't just for show either-we went out on the town this weekend with Sean, June, Jett and Tash. The boys are getting so much easier get out with (especially with Mike's help)!

Maguire's new grill

Ok so I'm exaggerating about the grill. Maguire is now rockin' a teeny, tiny white dot of a tooth. I tried to take a picture of it but I really need a zoom lens. I thought the picture was funny. And then I thought, I cannot believe that this is a big enough deal to me that I would document it with a photograph. And then I thought, if he wanted to reach a developmental milestone early I wish it would be sleeping through the night-this tooth does nothing to benefit me.

As the weather in Bakersfield dips below 90 degrees it can only mean one thing for me-FALL CLOTHES. For some of you that may not know, shopping is my drug of choice. The boys have given me a new excuse to shop so I have quickly started assembling their cold weather wardrobe. Mike asked me if fur lined booties were really necessary already. Are shoes up to the ceiling in my closet necessary? Define necessary. Apparently, he doesn't mind if our children freeze. I got a package from Gap last night and today we had ourselves a little fashion show.

My sister in law came over today with her family. My ten month old niece Leah couldn't get enough of Keller. She loved kissing him all over. I use the term kissing loosely; it was more like an all over open mouth slobber but he seemed to really enjoy it!

Mike's mom came over to babysit last night. She brought the boys the cutest outfits for Halloween. She dressed them up and took their pictures and we got to go out! We had a really good time but were yawning about 9:00 and ready to come home! Who knew a year ago how different our lives would be . . .

Thank God it's Thursday. Which means one day closer to Friday. Which means one more day until Mike is home for 2 days with us. I've never missed my husband more. I am having one of those feeling trapped days. When I was pregnant I had visions of taking the stroller for a nice walk around the neighborhood or to the mall or to visit other stay at home mom friends. Ya right. I took the boys on a little trip today-to the dang backyard. I had to get out and since they hate the car, stroller etc. I settled for the patio! They liked it and I think we will have to do it more. I took a picture just because it was a new setting.

They are finally on a "schedule". I hate that word because it reminds me of some psycho mom looking at the clock. I have to admit it is nice though. The "schedule" makes me stay home more because I have realized that when they get off "schedule" we are all miserable.

Cheryl came over last night and brought wine. It is so nice to see someone from the outside. So nice that I think I might have overdone it on the wine. I feel like I have no friends or contact with the world these days since June went back to work. Except for maybe Lorisha who will talk to me via text and instant messaging all day. This way if I end up falling off of a chair or something, at least she will worry and maybe call someone.

So . . . come visit us anytime! and bring wine

Operation rooster

We live in a tidy little neighborhood. All the houses look the same etc. etc. As if we aren't having enough trouble with the whole baby sleeping thing (see previous posts), we are dealing with farmlife in our front yard. The stupid thing cockle doodle doos at the first hint of light. This happens to be around 5:00 am! The crowing doesn't stop and goes all day. There is some sort of a rooster epidemic on Ravenwood Dr. Last month Mike and Mark chased one down the street and trapped it in a box. Mark took it somewhere (I didn't want to ask). We thought we'd seen the last of our noisy friend until his cousin/brother/father arrived. This guy is a little smarter and we are a lot less patient. Mike has been sneaking out with his pellet gun at the first crow in the morning-before the neighbors call the cops. He pokes in the bushes with the flashlight but the thing won't give himself away. Little did we know that he roosts in the tree above our roof about 50 feet up!

This morning I am laying in bed and hear the worlds loudest screech. Mike shot him out of the tree and I haven't heard him since. Before I was sleep deprived I might have felt bad.

Twenty toes

We have no life. Seriously, we sit around with our cell phones and video cameras waiting for the boys to do something that we think is cute. We have hundreds of these funny little clips so far but nobody but us and maybe the grandparents are interested in seeing videos of two babies cooing. This one however is very adorable so I had to post it! Try to ignore the blaring television in the background. Remember, I said that we have no life. Do the fall TV shows count?

Sinking to new lows

We have heard that some people would do anything for a good nights sleep. I'm kidding people-the can isn't even open! My friend Kelly saw this picture and insisted that she was calling Child Protective Services. Sadly, being a teacher, I know it takes more than giving your 3 month old a swig of Bud Light to get your kids taken away! I just thought it was a funny picture and please know that we aren't actully considering this method of sleep training (yet).

Addictive behavior

I have this guilt. It is the guilt I feel when the boys are awake. I feel like I should be putting on some sort of show at all times. I should be dancing, singing, reading or "stimulating". I have the hardest time just letting them sit in their swings or seats when they are awake. Maybe it is the Kindergarten teacher in me. It truly is exhausting. However, this is the best of both worlds. I get a break from performing and they get entertainment. This is one of their favorite activites (it better be, I spent $65.00 on it at Target one desperate day). They are addicited to the annoying nature sounds it makes and the light up butterflies. I can do my chores, check my e-mail and talk on the phone without feeling like they are missing out on me giving them some valuable brain development activity.

You kinda look familiar

They shared a womb for 35 weeks but up until the past couple days have been completely unaware of each other. I hear stories of twins comforted by sleeping together or being next to one another but I haven't gotten the sense that it matters one way or the other to the Babb boys. Just in the past few days however they have started to check each other out. They stare at each other and will smile and "talk". True to form, Maguire (nicknamed by us "The Detective") will lift his head and crane his neck to see what Keller is up to. He hates to miss anything going on around him. I can't wait until they can start entertaining each other-I need a break.

I am a teacher, not a barber

We are so busy with the boys and Mike's new job that we hardly have time for anything. Mike thought it would be a good idea for me to give him a haircut. He'd seen it done a thousand times and he has all the tools. He was convinced he could talk me through it. I told him that I didn't think I could do it. He insisted . . .

It was awful. I definitely COULDN"T do it. With every cut it just got worse and he got more frustrated with me. What's worse is that I could not stop laughing. In the end, he had to shave his head with Pixley as the audience. It took him a few hours to not be mad at me anymore and I think he learned his lesson.

Mike is famous

For those of you that don't know, Mike recently started his own business with a friend. They are doing mobile RV repair. They have a shop on Easton Drive and a trailer that serves as their mobile shop. It was so scary for us to start this when I was eight months pregnant! It had a slow start but is finally getting busy! So busy in fact that Mike isn't home until 7:00 some nights. Can you imagine what I look like on those nights? He has already had some funny stories about the people he has met and the RV's he has worked on. It has been a big change for him but a good change.
